You can still enjoy the outdoors in winter time.

Living in a small city in the wintertime can get a little quiet – but the silence it brings can be comforting and can alleviate the restlessness we face in our daily lives. For people who don’t enjoy skiing or other winter activities it can be hard to find pastimes to participate in – but there is good news for the people of Kamloops who enjoy the winter solace.

Peterson Creek Park is a stunning place to go to in the spring, summer and fall (there’s even a fun-size waterfall!) but in the winter time, it’s cold and the mini falls are obviously frozen. Many people would avoid visiting Peterson Creek Park in the winter time – but I’m here to tell you that it’s worth going in the winter time.

Grab a hot coffee or tea and ask a friend if they want to go for a walk – you won’t regret it. We usually tend to avoid going out in the cold weather, but once we get used it, it becomes alright. When I think of winter, I think of sweet hot cocoa or a pumpkin spiced latte and Netflix – but I’ve been making more of an effort to spend time outside. Some people aren’t into winter activities like skiing, so we think that the only way to spend winter is inside, but it doesn’t have to be that way. We can admire the process of crystallization and be apart of it.

I like to think of winter as a time where we plant our seeds, the time where we prepare ourselves for the summer, so we can reap the benefits of our crops by the spring. Winter is a season for reflection and preparation.

“I prefer winter and fall when you feel the bone structure of the landscape — the loneliness of it; the dead feeling of winter. Something waits beneath it, the whole story doesn’t show.”Andrew Wyeth
