Attending Thompson Rivers University for a combined total of seven years has made us campus experts. Clara and I can tell you the best places to eat, which resources to exploit, and where to find those coveted parking spots that no one seems to know about.

While those things are all great, they’re all irrelevant because of one simple fact: it’s midterm season. Luckily, the best piece of knowledge we possess is where the best study spots on campus are.

You could chose to study at home and be distracted by the never-ending chore list or the easy Netflix access, or you could go to a cafe, spend your limited funds on fancy coffee, and get your car towed if you park there for more than two hours (we’re looking at you, Reservoir).

No, studying on campus is the way to go- and we’re going to tell you just where to do it.

First up is the Wellness Centre.

Located in Old Main, room 1479, this cozy room is the study place of your dreams. There are two comfy couches, bean bag chairs, fairy lights and free tea and chocolate- that’s right, free tea and chocolate.

It’s the perfect place to go when you’re feeling stressed out, there’s even student wellness ambassadors there that can give you tips to deal with this stress!

Next, there’s the Writing Centre.

This bright room has big tables, computers, a printer, and a couch. It’s filled with other students that are doing homework or studying. If you’re working on a written assignment, there’s even tutors there that can help you!

The centre is filled with resources to help you with your projects and citations, and the staff can answer any writing-related questions you may have. Plus free coffee and tea… Because free stuff rocks.

If peace and quiet is what you need, head on to the Old Library.

In the Old Library, you’ll find an endless source of books and silence. Although there are shared tables and computers all over the first floor, on the second floor you’ll find individual private tables to enjoy some solo study time.

As there are no snack or beverage sources inside the library, other than some vending machines at the entrance, it makes it the best place to get a couple of uninterrupted hours of study on campus. Especially for all those people who, like me, get distracted with the excuse of getting some food.

There’s no better place to learn than the House of Learning.

The House of Learning is a four-story building created for those students who enjoy a more dynamic way of studying. In addition to all the tables available in the building, there are multiple private rooms you can book to hold all those group meetings and group study sessions through the semester. On the first floor, you’ll also find a computer lab with a couple of printers, some designated tables where you can meet with people from the writing centre, and a popular food source: Tim Hortons.
