Both of us (Twyla and Alex) have been student athletes throughout our entire University career and would like to show you what TRU Wolfpack has to offer! Thompson Rivers University (TRU) has numerous programs, classes, activities, clubs, and facilities, as well as outstanding one of a kind panoramic views which all might be reasons that attract potential and current students to the university however, the Wolfpack Athletics are also a big draw for many. Wolfpack teams offer scholarships to cover and assist with tuition, as well as a varsity athlete experience that provides students with a fit and healthy lifestyle, make life long friends, and be a part of a team while attending university. Students not on a team can still be apart of the pack by supporting their fellow student athletes at games and competitions at the Tournament Capital Centre (TCC)!

Hillside Stadium

The TCC hosts most of the TRU Wolfpack teams as they have outstanding facilities for a range of sporting activities. The Hillside Stadium (outdoor field and track) is a full sized venue and is used by the soccer teams, rugby, and cross country. Wolfpack teams are able to practice and hold games on FIFA certified turf with a surrounding 400m, 8 lane track. Unrelated to TRU, The BC Lions football team also practice on this field during their summer training and the Kamloops Broncos hold their home games here which are open to the public to watch.

Indoor Courts and Track

While at TRU students can come out and watch a volleyball or basketball game to cheer on fellow student athletes and engage in what will for sure be a highly competitive atmosphere. The TCC has 3 full size volleyball and basketball courts with a large track that surrounds them. During the week the track along with the courts can be used by all TCC members and guests of the facility excluding the times that the Wolfpack has them reserved. Once the weekend hits the bleachers are pulled out, the score table is set up and the hype of game day can be felt throughout the gym. Teams prepare each and every week to lay everything on the line in hopes of capturing a win and putting on an excellent show for their friends and families.

KGTC

To ensure success at competition, the competitive cheerleading teams need mats to practice stunts and a sprung floor for tumbling, so they rent out the Kamloops Gymnastics & Trampoline Centre (KGTC), located on the edge of campus in the TCC. The KGTC has exceptional facilities, providing opportunities to learn level 4 and level 6 cheerleading skills with the use of a 10 panel sprung floor, tumble track, rod floor, trampolines, foam pit, mini tramp, and an assortment of mats. You can also find the cheerleaders showcasing their skills and cheering on the team at most Wolfpack home games!

Canada Games Aquatic Centre

The TCC has a great pool facility that hosts competitions between the Wolfpack swim team and other schools along with multiple clubs that use the space during the evenings and weekends to practice. The facility has multiple swimming lanes that are used daily along with a large deep area with diving boards. For students that would like to relax and forget about the stresses of school, there are 2 hot tubs, a steam room and a sauna that help to rejuvenate the body. The pool is a great place to participate in many different activities and students receive free entry with proof of their student ID.

TCC Wellness Centre

All Wolfpack teams have discounted gym pass rates (on top of their TRU Student discount rate) at the TCC Gym and Wellness Centre. It is a full gym with cardio, resistance, and weight training equipment, perfect for all Wolfpack teams and TRU students to workout and keep fit.

So make sure the next weekend you’re free, put on your Wolfpack or TRU attire, head down to the TCC with your student ID for free admission, and enjoy an exciting game!
