Getting To Granville
It’s a dewey, grey morning as I sip my cappuccino and walk towards the water. The smell of wet grass wiggles it’s way into my nose as I watch the beautiful city of Vancouver wake up. Today’s mission: Granville Island Market!
The #50 False Creek bus rides from Gastown along Granville Street and stops right near Granville Island; the intersection of Anderson St. and West 2nd Ave. Hop off on the southeast side of West 2nd Ave. Find the huge Granville Island sign off to your right and you know you’ve made it.
Why Granville Island Is Your Next Move
Granville offers us so many beautiful moments: local shops, knick knacks, brewery and pub experiences, breathtaking views near the water, and of course, some of the most delicious food.
My family & I are foodies, so whenever we manage a trip to Granville, the market is our main priority. From fresh fruit to the orangest carrots you’ve ever seen, locally ground coffee, and homemade ice cream, the list goes on and your mouth remains in a watery state for the duration of the gastronomic Granville visit.
Food: My Second Favourite F Word
A main part of the farmer’s market experience on Granville is to graze and explore, I encourage y’all to take some food risks and pursue what intrigues you first! But, I’m going to highlight some favourites that I know you will not want to miss.
First up is the fresh fish. You can’t get much tastier than Granville seafood. All seafood offered at the market is caught and iced locally by Granville fishermen. Right off the left of the sea food tables there are some lovely organic spices that are offered… grab a couple of those and dinner is half way done.
One of my favourite parts about the Granville market is the fresh organic produce. I have never had a juicier grape and I think this market taught me what potatoes are actually supposed to taste like. Not to mention all the pretty colours…

Farmers Market Favourites
One of my all time favourite recipes is this Granville inspired fruit salad. Not only is it quick and easy – it’s pretty healthy as well! With the juicy Granville fruit you can’t help but feel like you’re indulging.
A Granville favourite is the peach white balsamic vinegar you are able to get from the market. This balsamic vinegar goes great on salads, meats, skewers, and pretty much anything else you will let me use it for. There are plenty of different balasamics available: apple and cinnamon, ginger blackberry, I even saw a turmeric and cinnamon option… the list goes on, and I for one am going back for seconds.
My final favourite is the dragon fruit and I left it out of the fruit salad for a reason. These dragon fruits are unlike ones I’ve tasted before. It could be my Northern palette speaking, but I was amazed the first time I chopped into one of these. I normally find dragon fruit tasteless and boring. Something about that Granville forage that makes them juicy and delicious!
Much like the atmosphere, Granville Farmers Market is sweet, good quality, and inclusive! Something for everyone to enjoy. Don’t forget your reusable bags, and happy marketing!
Really good post! I loved how you started with a story and added some humour! The recipes are also a unique idea that I loved!!
