As a student, I tend to go to cafes a lot to get work done or get a quick bite to eat or have a warm drink to carry to class. Compared to all the hot drinks out there like coffee, teas and lattes, my go-to hot drink is hot chocolate. I will rate the hot chocolate based on the richness, depth, whipped cream taste, and ambiance of the cafe.
Reservoir Coffee

Reservoir Coffee right near Thompson Rivers University. The interior gives this steampunk with some causal undertones with the wooden tables and soft coloured chairs. It’s a great place to study and chat with friends or co-workers. The hot chocolate itself was ok. However, there was no depth or richness to it, and it pretty much seemed like they put a hot chocolate packet with some hot milk and called it a day. The whipped cream looked nice but tasted very watery. The view was pretty nice as the sun was setting, as you can see the mountains ahead looking out to Summit Drive. Overall it’s a great place to hang out near campus but not to have a nice cup of hot chocolate.
The Art We Are Cafe

The Art We Are Cafe is a unique cafe that showcases local artists inside the cafe. (merchandise, artwork, etc.) They also give little toys used markers when you’re waiting for your drink or food. The hot chocolate was ok; similar to Reservoir Coffee, it didn’t have much chocolate flavour, and the whipped cream was mediocre. I would go there for the ambiance and the study space.
He Brew’s Coffee House

He Brew’s Coffee House is more of a hip cafe than the other two. The decor is very festive since we’re getting closer to the Christmas holiday right now. I chose this coffee shop because of my previous experience at that location, thinking there were more flavours of hot chocolate. When I asked what different kinds of hot chocolate they had, they only had the regular flavour and peppermint, which was better than the last two cafes, only having one flavour. I decided to try both flavours. The richness was alright, more so in the peppermint flavour. What I like most about it is the creaminess of the whipped cream.
