- Nisga’a Memorial Lava Bed Provincial Park
The Nisga’a Memorial Provincial Park is in the Nass River Valley and is near the villages of Gitlakdamix and Gitwinksiklk. This Park is filled with stunning views of the lava beds and a leisure walk to the hot springs. This can be a fun day trip from Terrace where you drive along the Kalum Lake, rivers, and view mountain peaks. Take a 3 km hike on a path through the lava beds, learn about the history and end up soaking in a natural hot spring.
- Exchamsiks River Provincial Park
The Exchamsiks River is in between the city of Terrace and Prince Rupert, BC. The rock faces and calm waters allows for some peace and quiet. The provincial park is a protected area and has a variety of activities to do. The park offers a short trail that goes through the old growth trees, along the river and is great for beginner hikers. Visitors can also go kayaking, canoeing, or fishing. Finish off the afternoon in the park which offers a day use area where many people go to enjoy lunch on the picnic tables.
- Hadia Gwaii
Haida Gwaii is an eight-hour ferry out oof the small port city, Prince Rupert and is home to the Hadia people. The ferry allows for people to sit back, enjoy the view and relax. Many people get to witness the humpbacks and other wildlife on route. Thetime to get to the island is worth everything once you arrive. The islands are home to wide ocean landscapes, abundant wildlife and wood architecture. The history is captivating and important to recognize when on the island. - Khutzemateen Inlet
The Khutzeymateen sanctuary is within the traditional territory of the Tsimshaian nation. One of Canada’s first protected parks located out of Prince Rupert. This is a special spot where you can view grizzly bears and humpbacks in the wild. There are two main businesses that offer tours. The Khutzeymateen Wilderness lodge, which is just a float plane away into the great outdoors where you can spend up to four nights in a wooden lodge. They offer kayaking, paddle boarding or swimming in the ocean. The lodge allows visitors to truly embrace the nature that surrounds it and encourage people to disconnect from the fast-pace world. However, if you are looking for a day trip The Prince Rupert Adventure Tours is also a great way to view wildlife. Also known as the big yellow boat, is a full day out on the ocean and into the wilderness. Both provide incredible experiences that shows a glimpse of the beautiful nature on the coast.
