As an international student studying at the Thompson Rivers University (TRU), accommodation is not just a place to stay after class, it is also a place for you to meet new friends and learn about different cultures. TRU offers three different residences for students to choose, TRU residence, McGill housing, and Upper College Heights (UCH) residence. To create a safe and worry-free living environment, all three residences have on-site security, and the front desk is on duty for 24 hours in case of students need help. Residences will be your new home away from home.
TRU residence opened in November 2006. It is an 11 storey residence that on-campus housing for 570 students. Entering from the main door, the front desk is on your right-hand side, where residents come to pick up their letters and packages and you can ask questions related to the dorm there. There are a few sofas and a patio at the lobby. You can take the elevators to reach your dorm’s floor, the common lounges area to hang out with friends, or to the 24-hour fitness room. TRU residence has two-bedroom and four-bedroom suites, and they are fully furnished with a desk, appliances, and other basic living facilities. After you open your dorm’s door, the common area is the first area that comes to your eye. A kitchen equipped with a big fridge, microwave, and a dining table will be the place for you to cook, share your food or hang out with your roommates. Open your room’s door, a cozy queen size bed is in the middle dividing the study area and a big closet.
Your desk is against the window, which ensures you have a bright study area. Seeing through the window you will have a wonderful city view or campus view depending on your room’s orientation. You will love studying at your desk and enjoying the great view.
Moreover, the TRU residence holds many events and activities year-round to enrich student’s spare time. All residences activities are designed for students to engage with other residents as a big family and also trying to create a home-like atmosphere. The rate for two-bedroom and four-bedroom suite for an academic year is $7,500.
Located at the south of the campus, McGill housing is another option for students who want to live on campus. A total of three buildings provides a total of 75 units and divided into 300 dorms. Each housing unit has one shared washroom and is designed for four students. After you walk into your room, you will see a single size bed, desk, and the cooking area are all well-organized. Other cool features that McGill housing provides, are the central building for you and your friends to hang out, where you can find a common kitchen, pool tables etc. McGill housing also organizes many social activities periodically for residents. The rate for one room at McGill housing is $5,050 for an academic year.
Upper College Heights (UCH) residence is approximately a 5 to 10 minute walk from TRU campus. It provides four-bedroom suites for over 200 students. The interior design in UCH is similar to the TRU residence. Walking into the common area at the UCH, you can find a place to cook, watching TV, playing billiards, ping-pong, foosball. UCH residence locates the geographical position superiorly. Living in the UCH, you can easily access to restaurants and groceries store just across the street. The rate for a room in UCH residence is $4,300 for an academic year.
