The Royal St. John’s Regatta
The Royal St. John’s Regatta is known as the oldest sporting event in North America with over 50,000 people attending annually. The very first Regatta was held in 1816 and has been a huge part of Newfoundland’s history for over 200 years, in August 2022 it will be the 204th anniversary. This event takes place at Quidi Vidi Lake during the first week of August and includes hundreds of concessions stands, with food, games, and the opportunity to watch rowing races. The Regatta is an event that many look forward to every year and it is the perfect outing for families to enjoy the culture of Newfoundland and will be a highlight of your visit.
George Street
George Street covers 2-blocks in the heart of downtown St. John’s with over 150 bars, pubs, and restaurants. It is the center of entertainment. It is known as the biggest little street in North America. There are multiple festivals held on George Street every year such as Canada Day celebrations, Mardi Gras, and the most favoured being George Street Festival which takes place the first week of August. This is a 7-day event that brings people from all over and is a unique way of displaying the culture of Newfoundland while enjoying a night out with friends and family. Each night of the event has a different musician performing with pervious guests such as Great Big Sea, City and Colour, The Arkell’s, and popular Newfoundland bands such as Shanneyganock.
