BACKGROUND ON THE AUTHORS
Luke and I are outdoor enthusiasts who can not wait to go on our next adventure. Personally, I have always been drawn to outdoor adventure activities, whether it was climbing trees after school with my friends or rafting trips with my family, being outdoors was the life for me. This led me to pursue a career in outdoor guiding and I got my diploma in the Outdoor Adventure Naturalist program at Algonquin College. Currently I am in the Tourism management degree here at TRU.
Much like Jason, being active outdoors is what I am most passionate about. From a simple little hike near town to a month long rafting expedition down the Grand Canyon. After completing the Outdoor Adventure program at Algonquin College, I started to guide whitewater raft trips for Wilderness Tours and Interior Whitewater as well as kayak during my free time. After learning most of my practical skills at Algonquin, I transferred to TRU to complete the Tourism Management degree.
The Gear Bay is the area of the school where all the most important adventure equipment is stored. Therefore, access is limited. However, we were lucky enough that Luke knew Simon who has the very important job keeping all the gear safe and ready for awesome adventures. Simon was kind enough to show us around. While we were getting our private tour another adventure guide Maison showed up so naturally we got a selfie with everyone.
One of the best parts of being here at TRU is the amount of opportunities to help gain knowledge, meet like minded people and have some adventures around Kamloops and beyond. The Gear Bay makes participating in activities quite a bit more accessible for students who do not have the equipment needed and the AdventureU Club makes getting out for students who have a whole range of experience possible. For those with plenty of experience being outdoors to those with little, being at TRU is one of the best options for having adventures at school.
